David Williams MP attended two VE Day events today to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today.
The morning began with an event hosted by the Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent in the Council Chamber, joined by the family of Private Alfred Holdcroft as they reflected on his service to the country. The day then continued at Hartshill Cemetery for the unveiling of a cross for Driver Joseph Gittins. David had the honour of laying a wreath before placing poppies on war graves across the cemetery grounds.
David said he is honoured to be working alongside Mike, Ruth, Joan and other members of the Royal Doulton Fallen committee to uncover the stories of local fallen heroes and reconnect with their families, just as they have done for Joseph.
“When you go home, tell them of us and say,
For your tomorrow, we gave our today.”
