It was an honour and a privilege for David to meet family members of Jack Baskeyfield VC, who was killed 81 years ago at Oosterbeek, Arnhem.
Yesterday’s Port Vale FC game against Mansfield Town was dedicated to his memory. The day began with a breakfast organised by the Port Vale Armed Forces Community Group, followed by mass at Holy Trinity Church and a wreath laying at Vale Park ahead of the match.
It was a fitting tribute to a true local hero — and we will always remember Jack Baskeyfield VC’s service and sacrifice for our country.
